#letsnailitsaturday

I have always been addicted to nail polish.

I am one of those girls who can't last a day without wearing nail polish. You know how some people would say "you are never fully dressed without a smile?" well, I say, "you are never fully dressed without nail lacquer".

As early as 5th grade, I was addicted to nail polish. Colors here in the Philippines back then were limited, so I would ask relatives who lived in the US to buy Hard Candy Nail Polish for me. I could only wear them on weekends because the school didn't allow us to be too "kikay", so... I was at my fully dressed on weekends. I have a collection of more or less 50 nail polish colors now and growing. I take extra care of them by keeping them in the fridge (yes! You read that right, it's the fridge) because it was said that it lasts longer this way. I don't want to get into detail about that, but you can Google that one.

So, that being said, let me tell you about my recent obsession with inverted french-tip nail art. Have you guys seen the movie "Bachelorette"? It was an OK movie, but I couldn't keep my eyes off Lizzy Caplan's nails. It took me a while to find a photo of her nails in the movie, but when I finally did, I immediately imitated it:

Here's another shot of her nails in the movie:

Don't you just lover her nails? After countless research on Google about her nails, I found this photo online (below), someone did a how-to on her nails:

I love that white bit peaking on the nail beds. This is called an inverted french-tip, or some would say it was a half-moon nail art. My nails weren't long enough for me to do the rounded pointed tip, so I had to make do with my square tips.

Ok, I won't recommend products because you can basically use any brand anyway. You can use any color combination that you wish, but I really fell in love with this one.

STEP ONE:

Choose a nice white nail polish. First, apply a layer of primer on your bare nails so the lacquer will adhere better. I double coated my white polish because white polish tend to streak. So 2 layers should be ok. Let it dry completely before moving forward to the next step.

STEP TWO:

Cut tiny pieces of masking tape into squares like the one in the photo. You can basically use any stickers actually. Those transparent tapes by Scotch actually works well because they don't leave any sticky residue but this works too.

STEP THREE:

Choose a deep red polish to layer on top of the white polish. I used Merry Berry from China Glaze. I think this color is just divine! I also applied 2 coats of the red polish. Let the red polish dry completely again before moving to the next step. It has to be really dry!

STEP FOUR:

Now, peel the masking tape carefully and apply a color enhancing top coat, like China Glaze's Patent Top Coat. I just love this brand next to OPI and Orly.

There you have it! Isn't it just adorable?? I know the end result is not as perfect as the one in the photo, but hey... If you change polish as often as I do (like two or three times a week!) then it will do and learning how to do them yourself will save on moolah. But if money is no object, why not? *wink wink*

Here's another version of what I did with the tape trick thing. I wore this to a wedding. Nice right? I love it to bits! It's simple, and best of all, it's so easy to do! It just takes time and practice... and Patience.

ENJOY!

    1. I first heard about nail polish being stored in the fridge from the SA at China Glaze. I Googled it and there are quite a few who said that it really does keep the nail lacquer fresh and its color is preserved! And according to the websites, it lasts for quite a while!
