Kat Mendiola Trial Hair and Makeup

10.10.10 is the date! It's getting close that's why Kat and I decided it was time to do her trial already. Just in time for her prenup pictorial!

Going for the slightly smokey, and bronzed look was the perfect look for her. Kat has strong cat-eye eyes that's why I slightly made her shadow smokey to soften her look and opened them up with long lashes.

After airbrushing her face and cheeks, I defined her brows as well to frame her face. Pairing her slightly dramatic look with soft pinkish-brown lips softened and toned-down her eyes and brows.

For her hair, Tony opted for 3 looks for her prenup. The first look is up-styled (as per requested by her hairstylist), the next look (when Kat removes her pins) was a sided look, and the last look was completely down with curls.

Cookie Somera Trial Hair and Makeup

The first time Cookie and I spoke was on the phone when she was booking me for her wedding. This was a year ago... Now, it's less than 2 months before her wedding!

As soon as I saw her, I knew that going for the more dramatic eye makeup look was perfect since she had beautiful deep-set eyes.

Kamille Gaspar Trial Hair and Makeup

Only 1 week to go before Kamille's big day! My bride from Australia had her trial session today with me and Tony. They were having their prenup pictorial today and Tony and I agreed that this was the perfect look for her.

Kamille is very kalog so a more casual and yet sweet was the way to go.

I airbrushed her makeup, contour and cheeks and did everything else by hand, which is still the best for precision. LOVELY!

You gotta ♥ SUESH!

I was at the SUESH Showroom last Saturday and conducted the first basic airbrush makeup seminar. It was my first time at Sheryll's showroom and I just fell in love with her cute store! It's a makeup artist's heaven! You can't leave empty handed!

Sheryll and I go way back. When she was starting her biz, she gave me a stippling brush to try and also my first set of 24pc. brush set... I fell in love with them instantly. Now, I don't use any other brush! Well, except for the other brushes that other brands gave me, like Shu Uemura and a few Lancome brushes, but majority of brushes in my artist's belt are SUESH.

Marnelli and her fiance are having their prenup pictorial in an old 50s diner so I did a fresh makeup look which is perfect for their theme. Fresh makeup was the thing back in the 50s.

My client Myla Cho will be a secondary sponsor in a wedding today in Tagaytay. She booked me a couple of months ago and we got a long instantly. She's a lovely girl (who looks so young I didn't know she was married with 2 kids!), with shoulder length hair. Myla wanted to do a "Diyosa" look for the wedding alongside her friends at the wedding (who all had long hair), so she bought extensions.

But first, let's talk about the makeup. Myla has never tried airbrush before so she opted for airbrush makeup. She fell in love with it instantly! I only brushed a single layer or airbrush on her since she had clear skin.

She wanted a fresh no-makeup makeup look but I suggested that we do a light smokey eye so that she won't look too "bride-y" and will go well with her hair. This was also the first time she did this makeup look too.

What I did was create a smokey dramatic eye for her, and still did the fresh look that she wanted. I didn't want to contour a whole lot to avoid making her look too bronze and tanned. She wanted to look fair.

For Myla's hair, she bought lots of extensions! She had shoulder length straightened hair (and thick too!) and this is what Tony created for her hair!

I was soooo jealous! Hehehe...

A HOT TREND THAT SHOWS no sign of waning, shimmery makeup continues to be all the rage as it makes its way to the next season.

Wearable and versatile, shimmer blends well with the optimistic spirit of the New Year. It not only gives skin a fresh, dewy glow, it also works well with high-pigment eye shadows, blushers and lip colors.

While runway models and celebrities make it look easy, applying shimmer in real life can prove a little difficult. Knowing what shimmer to choose, how to wear it when you’ve got fine lines, and how to minimize if you’ve applied too much are just some of its challenges.

Lancome makeup artist Sabs Hernandez provides solutions to these and more tips on wearing shimmer.

Highlight one feature at a time. A little shimmer does a lot to bring out one’s features; but unless you want an oily-looking face, it is best to keep it to a minimum. Keeping the focus on only one feature prevents makeup from looking greasy or dirty.

“Highlighting your entire face with shimmer will not look flattering, it will look like grease,” says Hernandez. If you’re after that dewy skin effect, “mix matte loose powder with a bit of shimmer.”

And if you’ve gone overboard with the product, simply minimize by patting on pressed powder.

Choose extra fine particles. When it comes to shimmer, size matters. The rule of thumb when buying shimmery makeup: The finer the particles, the better it will look. “Too big particles, like glitter, will make you look like a Christmas ornament,” Hernandez said. “I highly recommend using an iridescent powder, especially when highlighting features like the forehead, cheekbones, nose bridge and chin. This type of shimmer is so fine that it looks flawless in person and on camera.”

Where to apply shimmer

Shimmer, when applied on the right places, can bring out best features and give your face depth and dimension. “For me, the best place to highlight is the cheekbones, as it gives your face an instant lift, making you look five pounds lighter,” suggests Hernandez.

For an easy daytime look, “try wearing a wash of pastel shimmer shadow on your lids and pair with gloss,” and to create a fresh, understated look for the evening, “apply shimmer on brow bones, cheekbones and chin.”

Another way to wear shimmer is to mix loose shimmer powder with body lotion: “Apply on shoulders to highlight and give you that sexy glow.”

Shimmer for fine lines. If you have fine lines and are afraid to use shimmer, you shouldn’t be. “Shimmer actually minimizes the visibility of wrinkles and fine lines because its particles reflect light,” explains Hernandez. A trick for brightening up your eyes is to “mix concealer with loose shimmer powder.” This will reduce the appearance of fine lines and minimize darkness under eyes.

Add a dose of shimmer to smoky eyes. Too matte shadows tend to look chalky. Choosing shadows with a generous blend of shimmer not only makes application easier, it beautifully highlights the eyes. “If you are doing smoky eyes in a black or gray shade, shimmer is always best because it gives funkiness to the look while creating an updated version of the ’50s or ’60s look.”

Chesa's First Trial Session

Chesa is getting married next Friday and she found an opportunity to have her first trial session with me. It was her grandma's birthday and they were going to an all-day affair celebrating it.

Instead of doing a full-blown wedding makeup look, I did her makeup more subtly just giving her enough color for a daytime event, but enough too to be not washed out at night.

Her fair clear skin was a big part of beautifully applied makeup. I didn't even have to spend so much time blending her airbrush makeup because her skin is well taken cared of.

This is not going to be her wedding day makeup look, we had this session just for her to get a feel of the makeup and how color looks on her face. She never wears any makeup so I didn't want to shock her with too much makeup! Hehehe... So come her wedding day, we will be doing a more defined makeup look.

As for Chesa's hair, Tony also didn't do her wedding up-do because she might look too made up during the day and for night. So he kept it more casual and yet classy. A hairstyle that looks like she did it herself:

Doing Your Nails Like A Pro!

Manis and Pedis are up in this economy! Having your nails done are one way to up your mood, or one way to complete any look! You do not have to spend hundreds of pesos to have your nails done. With the right tools, you can do your own nails!

If you are anything like me, you will love doing your own nails. It relaxes me a lot and the satisfaction it gives me after accomplishing a perfectly polished nail makes me happy! Of course, I go to the nail salon when I need cleaning (about once a month) -just for cleaning, but changing nail color is as simple as 1-2-3!

STEP ONE: PREPPING

BUFFING

Use a soft buffer to smooth our your nails. Make sure that you provide a nice smooth canvas for your nail polish!

SOFTENING

Use a cuticle oil (like Dashing Diva's Cuticle Nectar) to soften your cuticles. Drop a few products on each nail and leave on for about a minute before massaging your cuticles.

PUSHING

With the flat part of your "cuticle" pusher, gently push your cuticles inward. Don't apply too much pressure on your nails to avoid scratching them and may cause your nails to have bumps.

NIPPING AND TUCKING

Use your nipper to simply nip the pushed cuticles. Nip your hangnails and those little skin tags that hang at the side of your nails.

DRY IT UP!

Use a nail polish remover to wipe away oil residue and nipped cuticle particles. Nail polish removers are more gentle on your nails than acetone. They also come with a wide variety of yummy smells like grape and strawberry (like Elianto's Nail Polish Remover). Your nails have to be oil free because nail polish won't adhere to oil.

INSURANCE

Some women like to skip this part, but not applying a base coat will cause your nail polish to streak when you apply them. Base coating gives that insurance that your nail polish will have a smooth surface for your color to adhere to.

STEP TWO: PAINTING!

PAINT

Now comes the best part.. PAINTING! Choose your color and paint your nails. Hold the brush mid-cap, not at the top -you will have more control. When painting your nails, start at the sides of your nails and then color the middle part. This will have less visible streaks. 2 coats will give you the right color that you need. Don't worry about nail polish on your fingers and on your cuticles, you can clean them up after your nails have dried to avoid nicking and smudging.

SEALING

Seal your freshly painted nails with a top coat. This will ensure the color and give your nails a sexy shine!

DOUBLE TIME IT!

I love using this product! It can dry your nails double the time! Apply a drop on top of your nails and at the cuticles. Even though that this is a quick drying product, still, give your nails time to completely set and dry inside. The surface may be dry but the layers in between may still be wet.

STEP THREE: PATIENCE.

Give your nails plenty of time to dry. If you rush, you will be more prone to smudges and chips! If you get a chip on your polish, dot polish on the nicked spot. Let dry and apply clear nail polish on the entire nail.

Do Grooms Really Need Makeup?

First of all, it is not uncommon for men to wear makeup specially in the acting, beauty, and fashion industry. Putting on makeup for editorial photo shoots is a must to make it easier for the photographer to retouch. Not only that, male models need to look very 3 Dimensional to make them look chiseled, tanner, or very matte (oily skin can reflect too much light) and doesn't look good in magazines. These male models are used to wearing makeup, and are very conscious about touching their face. They have makeup artist and other people wiping their sweat for them in between clicks of the camera. Film making also magnifies the actors' skin 100x specially on tight takes so they really need to pile on the makeup to withstand all the lights, the cameras, and the heat. Without makeup, they will tend to look very pale and flat.

Makeup artists like me have to exaggerate these models jaw lines, cleft chins, nose lines, and cheekbones to make them look more high fashion and more model-esque when walking down the runway or posing for photo shoots.

For grooms on the other hand, makeup is not necessary. They are not used to wearing makeup, for some, have never worn makeup in their whole lives, and wearing some on your wedding day might make them too conscious (may show in photos), or make them feel very uncomfortable. There are some grooms who are worried about their exceptionally dark circles showing in photos. The thing about wedding photos, is that making everything look as real as possible. Including making the groom look as masculine and "rough" as possible. "Real-life" grooms are not usually seen wearing makeup in their everyday lives, and wearing some on your wedding day might look a little off. Take this couple photographed on the left. They are my real bride and groom in the past and he has a position in the government. I asked him if he wanted to wear makeup and he said no. So it really depends on your groom. Ask him, don't decide for him. Some photographers retouch minor acne problems and pimples using photoshop for really closeup photos so don't worry. Ask your photographer if he can do this for you and your groom.

Ask your wedding day makeup artist what they intend to do with the grooming your groom. Some artists like putting makeup on grooms (that is non-negotiable) to make the bride and groom look uniformed, but some don't. Don't decide for your groom, he is the one wearing his makeup not you. Discuss makeup with your artist together with your groom and let him decide. Men are not conscious about makeup on their face like girls; so come wedding day, they just might wipe it all off anyway. The most important thing is his comfortability with makeup. For this couple on the right, the groom opted for just a little anti-shine product that is light and transparent. It lasts the whole day and he won't be conscious about messing up his makeup!

Should you color inside or outside the lines?

When wearing lipstick, regardless of what color, the question of whether coloring inside or outside the lines have always been an issue. Depending on the effect you would want to achieve, there is no right or wrong way when putting on your lipstick.

I took photos of my own lips so that you can see the different effects on coloring inside and outside the lines. I used a matte red lipstick so that the effect is more obvious:

These are my puckers without lipstick. As you can see, there are 2 obvious lines. The one that is where my obvious natural lip line is (the pink colored part), and the outer part which looks like a highlight.

With a lipliner pencil that matches my lipstick almost exactly the same, I lined my natural lip line and filled in my lips with that same pencil. Then, I topped it off with my red lipstick so that the color will last longer, and give a bolder look.

I concealed the outside part with a concealer pencil to better show you which line I was referring to. By doing this technique, the effect is to make my lips look thinner. This is the method I use actually because I have full lips. I also conceal the outer part and set it with my pressed powder to blend it and make it look more natural.

The other technique is by lining the outer line with the pencil and filling it in, topping it with your lip color to achieve the full-angelina jolie-esque lips. I hardly use this method because it tends to over power my over all look. Using bold colors like red, bright pink, or even other natural nude colors can make your lips look bigger.

So if you would like to make your lips appear thinner, better to stay inside the lines.

By concealing the outline of your lips will allow you "draw" the shape you desire. Just remember to try to avoid reconstructing your whole lips altogether because whether or not you master this, it will always look un-natural.

Remember to blot and reapply for a long lasting wear!

How To Wear Colored Eye Shadow In A Classy & Sophisticated Way!

In recent seasons, the use of colored eye shadow has once again become fashionable. More and more fashion giants have been using colorful shadows on the runway and print ads. Using colored shadows is a really a fun way to update your look when you get bored with your everyday makeup routine. This time around though, colored shadows are much more used in a subtle manner, Unlike in the 80's when shadows are applied from lash lines to the brow bones. To use colored eye shadow in a sophisticated manner you need to select flattering colors and apply them with care.

A splash of color can really bring out your eyes and can make or break your look, so randomly just picking any color that you like or have seen in the glossies isn't always the best tactic. You also don't want to choose shadows that matches the color of your outfit, but instead, choose colors that best complements them. If you are wearing green, purple tones help bring out your eyes. Brown and black outfits tend to look fabulous with green, or blue shades. Blues and purples can look good with pink or plum colors.

Application tips

When working with colors, it is best to start your make up with your eyes. This allows you to clean up any mistakes, or specks of dropped eye make up before applying foundation. One fail-safe trick is to apply a generous amount of loose powder under your eyes so that the powder can catch the colored eye makeup product. After you apply your eye makeup, you can just easily brush off the loose powder.

* When it comes to applying colored eye shadow you need to make sure you have the right tools at hand. You will need a good quality blending brush and lots of translucent powder.

* Don't try to apply your color all the way up your brow bone; it should be used as a highlight. You could try applying it as a V in the socket, or work it closely along the lashes.

* Remember that dark colors make areas of your eyes recede, whereas light colors bring them forward. So make sure you also consider how the use of color affects your eye shape. If you have small or deep set eyes, only use color in the outer thirds of your eyes, otherwise you are likely to make them look even less open. If however, your eyes are widely spaced or big, you might like to take the color right in to the inner corner.

* When using color, you need to make sure it is blended in really well with the base neutral that you have covered your lid with. You don't want the color to look chunky and stripe like. A blending brush will help take the hard edges away. You can also apply translucent powder over the top to graduate the color.

Finally, if you do decide to play your eyes up with color, make sure you keep your cheeks and lips fairly soft and neutral. Only one feature should be strongly highlighted.

GET THE LOOK:

Get the eye makeup look on these models!

Applying blue eye shadow is a little tricky. Too much can make it look like a black eye, and not enough can make you look ashy. When you buy blue eye shadow, choose one that looks bright in the pot but not neon.

Start by patting eye shadow on your lids from lash lines up to your crease and flipping a little bit at the outer corners to make your eyes look opened.

Blend the lines with a silver/white shadow to minimize the appearance of hard lines. Apply shadow also on your lower lash lines for more drama. You can skip this step if you will be wearing this during the day.

To wear gold eye shadow, pair it with another color that will compliment it like olive green. Gold eye shadow alone can make your skin look too yellow and sallow, and by pairing it with another color can compliment it even more.

Apply the gold shadow the same way, and line your lash lines (both upper and lower) with an olive green shadow with a flat liner brush. Blend and smudge the greens and create a smokey effect so that it will blend well with the gold.

Remember not to over do it. Less is always more, and a little color is just supposed to accent your look not to over power your whole entire outfit. You want to give focus on the eyes but not completely draw all the attention to them.

Most important tip is to just have fun and experiment! For beginners, try to avoid brands with too much color pigment. These tend to be harder to blend and erase when you make mistakes. Try basic beauty products like Maybelline, L'Oreal, or Fashion Serrano. Their shadows are very easy to blend and just gives a hint of color. You won't get intimidated specially when you're a newbie with wearing colored eyeshadow.

How To Add Contour To Eye Makeup

When putting on makeup, contouring is crucial to add depth and definition to avoid looking flat. Specially in photos. Makeup artists take lots of practice to master this technique to make contouring look as natural as possible. I will put some tips and tricks here for you to master these techniques as well so that you can apply them on yourself.

Apply a base eye shadow that you will apply on your entire eye lid. This shade should be a color slightly brighter than your natural skin tone so that if will give dimension to your eye lids when we're done. A cream base works best to make powder eyeshadow last. Try MAC's paint pots in painterly. Then apply a base shadow on top of the cream shadow like BONE or LIGHT GOLD.

Choose a contour color. The color that you should choose should look like a shadow (a natural shadow on places that light can't hit your face) and be a dark, contrasting color to the base. Popular colors include caramel taupe, dark brown or charcoal. Matte finish works best.

Lift the skin above the eye by gently lifting the brow with a finger on the opposite hand than the one you're using to apply the contour. Lifting the eye will open up the crease. Tilt your head back (as you would when applying mascara) to clearly see your crease.

Load the shadow brush with the contour color (and tap excess), sweep the contour in the crease of the eye starting from the outer corner of your eye, working your way in. When blending, fade the color as you move toward the eye. Use a light touch to gently sweep the shadow back and forth until the desired amount of color is achieved. When you release your lift of the eye, you should be able to see the color above the crease.

Blend the contour. Use a new brush or clean the brush. This will help remove excess product on your eye and will avoid adding more color on your lids. Lift up the eye again, and blend the contour shadow by sweeping the brush back and fourth until no harsh shadow lines are visible.

Contouring adds depth and character to any eye makeup. This will help open up your eyes specially when you top it with 2 coats of mascara on your curled lashes!

OH... MY... GOSH... The Beauty Blender has arrived in Makati!!

I had been lusting over the Beauty Blender for quite sometime but it was an inconvenience for me to get. It was either you get it online, or go all the way to Greenhills in SprintAsia to get it. I know that it's not really that far to go, but with a busy schedule, I had no time to travel that far to get one.

I first saw these adorable, useful little things from another makeup artist and I was able to try it out. All I can say is that it's AMAZING. You can use it with liquid foundation or powder but I prefer to use it with powder. The MAC or Suesh stippling brush is still best for applying foundation. When using with powder, dip the rounded part and dot your forehead, cheeks, tip of nose, and chin, avoiding the under eye area. Use a rounded brush and blend the powder to set your makeup. With the pointed tip of the sponge, dip the sides on powder and dot your under eye area starting from the inner corner of your eye working your way out. The pointed part of the sponge makes it easier to reach these places. Then, use a brush to blend.

Anyhoo, going back... I was in Powerplant today and went through my usual route: BeautyBar, MAC, and then upstairs to PCX. I was there to shop for Epilin Wax and browsing the shelves for more stuff to buy when I saw it... The Beauty Blender sponge!!

It took me a while to open the package because I was savoring everything that was on the box! It's cute packaging indicates everything you need to know about the sponge and how to take care of it. The sponge, when you buy it alone, costs PhP 1,495. The Blender Cleanser costs PhP 1,494 also so if you buy it separately costs almost 3k. But if you buy the duo pack like what I photographed, costs PhP 2,595. It' a little pricey for a sponge but it's worth it. Beauty enthusiasts out there like me will really benefit from this product!

I don't know if you are like me who like smelling stuff that I buy. I just love how new makeup smells! This particular sponge smells really good. Not like perfume-y or something, but it smells like sponge and something sweet. I can't really describe it.

The sponge itself is soft and when you squeeze it, it bounces right back. It's not too soft and not too firm. It's soft enough to grip firmly for awhile without tiring your fingers from too much pressure, and not too soft that it's hard to control.

The Blender Cleanser smells like baby shampoo! It washes your sponge thoroughly and doesn't leave icky old smell of makeup on your sponge. What's best too is that it's dual purpose! You can use it for washing your makeup brushes too!

I already tried it with my professional makeup brushes and it works great! Unfortunately, it's not a wipe off formula so you really need to use it with water.

I absolutely love this product, even if it comes with a pricey price tag. If you take good care of it, it can last you a long time. But if and when it does wear out, I will get myself another one!

My beautiful bride Sarah had her trial hair and makeup today with me and Tony. This was the first time we met and I immediately fell in love with her :) She's so sweet and blessed with good skin! I just love her smile and her eyes are very easy to put makeup on. Just a little already gave a lot of character!

Sarah wanted a look that was fresh and natural. Something that doesn't look over made but has definition in pictures. After airbrush, I applied bronzer all over her face to give a little glow and a rose-colored blush to give a natural yet warmth on her cheeks. Perfect for her Tagaytay wedding. A little bit more than the usual blush on her cheeks is appropriate since it's cold in Tagaytay. Hence, the "rosey cheeks" look.

As for Sarah's hair, she wanted a loose look, nothing "banat" or a wet look, full of hairstyling products. Something soft and natural as well. So this is what Tony did:

This cosmetic brand carries special quick-fix products for every gal :) I use their cosmetic for professional use because they are very skin friendly, and their products smell so yummy!

Would you pair dark lips with smokey eyes?

Dark eye shadow and bold lips are the biggest trends during fall and winter, but the classic repeated rule of makeup artists is to choose either a strong eye or strong lips but never, ever both at once.

But ever-fashionable actresses like Megan Fox, Diane Kruger and Christina Aguilera defied this beauty commandment by pairing a dark matte red lipstick with a dramatic smoky eye for the red carpet or a premiere and did they look pretty darn amazing!

But, like many of celebrities' looks, this look may be one better left to evenings out (when you're bold enough) or for photoshoots and runways.

If you have strong features, try going for a softer makeup look to soften your features. If you are bored with your look, you can always pull of this look for a night out. Just keep the smokey eyes muted a little bit and a lighter red. Try using lip gloss, matte lipsticks make a makeup look look very heavy.

After I applied Lancome's Contour Pro Lip Pencil on Margs' lips, I topped it off with Sephora's Lush Flush Wine Lip & Cheek Stain! Then topped it off with MAC's lip glass in clear. Experiment and mix colors until you find the shade that best suit your color tone!

Ashley Tamayo Prenup Pictorial Makeup

One of my closest friends (one of my best actually), Ashley, was going to have her prenup pictorial today so she came to me for makeup.

We decided on doing something fresh and natural for her prenup, and do our trial hair and makeup session on a different day so that we can really try the look she wants for her wedding in December.

Airbrush makeup was the only way to go for an outdoor shoot. Regardless of the shoot being in Tagaytay, I needed to secure her makeup to withstand rain, shine, and sweat.

Ashley had always had a gorgeous face. A little color goes a long way with her, specially her eyes. I just love playing them up and adding more lashes to her already full and lush natural set to give that extra UMPH!

After my appointments today with clients for their trial sessions, I asked my sister to come over and have a shoot at my little studio at home. Here's is the outcome of our shoot today:

I airbrushed her face and did everything else by hand. I just love my sister's look because her face is really versatile. She looks good in any color because of her yellow toned skin. Her eyes also are fun to put makeup on because she has a par of gorgeous deep set eyes.

Lately, I have been craving for glamour and fashion makeup. Playing with colors is something I really love to do, something that I can't really do with my brides because classic, elegance, and simplicity is really still best for brides. So I am hoping for more free time soon so that I can shoot some more glamour makeup!

I asked my cousins, sisters China and Cristalle, to come to my condo for a some-what photoshoot. A little bit of amateur stuff since my schedule was free in the afternoon. I was in the mood to do a little fashion/beauty makeup, so I asked them for a peg how they want to look.

My cousin China chose Alicia Keys:

China really carried well the bronze look! Her makeup could also be JLO inspired... I airbrushed China's makeup about 2 shades darker than her natural skin color. I used a lot of golds, bronzers, and illuminating products to get that golden look.

Cristalle chose to be a snow/winter goddess:

Minus the snow flecks on the cheeks and the snowy background, we just fell in love with the eye makeup and the nude lips! I used an airbrush foundation that is 2 shades lighter than her natural color mixed with silver mixing medium to give an iridescent effect.

After our fun shoot, I photographed them together to show the contrast of the makeup. Soooo very yin yang! Ebony and Ivory-esque... ♥ IT!!

THE BLACK MARKET: Counterfeit Cosmetics

You might think that counterfeits exist only in the realm of Louis Vuitton and Gucci bags and wallets, but there are counterfeit and black-market cosmetics as well. I love looking for cheap but authentic products and bargains, so instead of buying fake ones, I go for reasonably priced cosmetics like Maybelline, Lola Cosmetics, or Fanny Serrano. When it comes to shopping for makeup and other skin care products, you have to take extra caution and you have got to be extremely careful.

I was recently on eBay looking for a hard-to-find MAC lipstick shade (all stores sold out), and other MAC faced-out lipstick shades. I've found quite a number of imitation eye shadows, lipsticks, glosses and fragrances… EVEN SKIN CARE!! -all offered at prices that are way too good to be true. While there are also a lot of honest sellers out there, a few folks are out to make a quick buck. Passing fake products as the real deal.

Why is buying counterfeit merchandise a bad idea, you may ask? There are a few good reasons, but first and foremost is your health. If you don't know where a product really comes from, or God only knows what ingredients are in them, why would you let it touch your skin? The skin is the largest organ of the human body and the most that absorbs chemicals and unwanted substances.

Counterfeits also funnel money into shady operations, and are illegal. And on a less sinister level, the colors just aren't accurate. These products also don’t lass that very long. Eye color that seem to disappear the moment you blink your lids.

To find out how to avoid buying fakes, read more about these “shady” products online. There are quite a number of sites out there that review these counterfeit products to warn makeup lovers out there.

Common sense will take you a long way. If a deal seems too good to be true or they sell products in bulk, they probably are fakes. For instance, the 12 "MAC" eye shadow powders shown on the photo were being sold on eBay for PhP 99.00/pc. Hmm, that's a pretty low price, considering a single shadow is PhP 850/pc. in the stores. Some lip glosses are sold for PhP 1,500 for a set of 25. Now, I can't tell whether those eye shadows are genuine or fake (maybe some people just like to throw them away at really low prices), but the price seems a little odd.

Check the seller's feedback, complaints by bidders are usually posted there so read on before you click “ADD TO CART”. For most people, common sense will help you spot obvious fakes, but the counterfeiters are getting better and better at making their stuff look like the real thing.

What do you think ladies? Would you sacrifice your skin and buy counterfeit makeup to save a few bucks, or would you rather save up for the real thing which are actually worth it? It's also good to know what products your local salon or makeup artist is using just to make sure. Makeup artists who are professional would be happy to discuss with you their products of choice to ensure your skin's safety.

Eyebrow Razors

I just loooove going to Japan Home ♥ This is where I love to browse for storage stuff for my makeup kit! Everything they sell is PhP88.00 or less!

Anyway, during one of my recent trips to the store, I found small pink boxes on top of their cashier counter... Being a pink freak that I am, I couldn't help but check them out. As it turned out, they are boxes of razors!

I figured that they can be used on shaping eyebrows because of the long handles and the way that the blade is positioned. It's just like those 'real' eyebrow shavers that you usually see in cosmetic counters at the department store:

The one I found in Japan Home Centre though doesn't have those plastic fringes that goes around the blade for protection, so you have to take EXTRA care when you're using it. I tried it out on the hair on my thumb (yes, I actually shaved it off), just to get the feel of the blade. And it's uber sharp! I didn't have to use repeated strokes to shave the hair off! I just love it!!

They cost PhP66.00 for a box of 5, so you'll be using them for a long long time. Usually, stores sell them for about PhP70.00 for 3 razors. AND they're pink! Hahaha! If you do decide to get for yourself, please please PLEASE take extra care when you use them!

A 'Prestige' product with a cheap price tag ♥

A little while back, I received an email from Prestige, introducing their new products. I totally forgot about their email, and today, I was again on the prowl for the perfect everyday-wear lipstick. I was in Beauty Bar in Powerplant and came across Prestige's latest Color Treat Anti-Aging Lipstick. I had no idea that they have finally come to Manila!

After browsing the counter and trying lipstick after lipstick on the inside part of my arm, I decided to try on Beautifully Buff.

The first thing I noticed about this product is that it goes on smoothly on your lips like lip balm or a chapstick. It's very creamy and glides on easily! I just love it's pinky-nude shade. It's like a tinted balm (but a bit more pigmented). It's one of those shades that you can pull off with just about any look you feel like, and be out the door in a jiff with a perfectly looking applied makeup. The color lasts awhile, depending on how often you wet your lips. Of course, if you eat, the color tends to rub off your napkin. But I noticed that if you just press your lips together, the color stays on long.

When the color eventually does fade, it fades equally all around your lips. I hate those products where only the inside part of your lips lacks color, and you're left with a ring of color around your lips.

This product has a very refreshing and feminine smell. It's not like those heavily perfumed lipsticks that are common now a days. It is rare that I find something so sweet smelling like lemons and melon (well, at least this is what I am picking up). The smell is very subtle and you will have to sniff it a few times to distinguish the smell.

As for the anti-aging benefits it claims to have, I really can't tell yet since I haven't used it long. But with its balming effect and moisturizing feel it gives, I believe so that it will live up to its claim!

This is me sporting the product! I topped it with Chanel's Levres Scintillantes Glossimer in #131 (or Mica). They look soooo good together! ♥ I got mine in the US for $27, so I'm not sure how much they cost here. Just ask their beauty associates how much they are, I'm sure the prices won't be that far off.

With a whopping price tag of only PhP 375.00 for Prestige's new lipstick, this definitely is a STEAL!! Available in all Beauty Bar Boutiques! Chanel products available in Rustan's Department Stores.

KT's Summer Look

I have been doing Kate's makeup for a while and she always looks good in any eye shadow color! From black to nude, she always gives a radiant glow! I have always envied her beautiful clear skin. Even when she comes to me tired from the night before, her skin always maintained it's glow and suppleness. So, I airbrushed her skin with a light layer just to even out her skin tone.

Kate is judging a contest tonight in M Cafe and a gig after at Saguijo at 11. I wanted to make her look versatile. Something fresh for her judging stint, and something that last and withstand the harsh lights on stage her singing gig.

So instead of using the typical black, grey and mauve palette, I decided to use bronze colors on her. Sun kissed skin, warm dewy cheeks, and smokey eyes without the heaviness of it. I used NARS' eyeshadow duo in scorching sun.

At first I was having second thoughts on using this palette on Kate since she has fair skin and a yellow undertone. So I started with a light bronzer to check her skin's compatibility with golden undertones. It was amazing! Gold still looks good on her!

For her cheeks, I used Shu Uemura's Glow On blush. I combined 2 shades which are P76 which is a pearlized golden brown shade, and P94 which is an icy beige for highlighting the apples of her cheeks. For her cheekbones, I used Shu Uemura's P42, which is a light (almost white) pearl shell peach shade.

I kept Kate's lips nude and glossy for her judging stint, and I asked her to use a darker nude lip gloss for her gig ♥

Oooh!! I am luvin' her new hairstyle by the way!! So fresh and soooo Jennifer Aniston! ♥

Q & A: Neck Pigmentation

I have a problem. I have had a dark neck for as far back as I can remember. I don't know what it's called but it's that dark ring around the neck. Even though I scrub it, it still stays darker and it's as if it grows darker as time goes by.

I work in Makati as a sales executive, so I walk around under the sun. I've tried bleaching it but nothing seems to work! What should I do?" [sent via AskSabs on June 1, 2010]

A: Hi Cynthia!

I can definitely relate to this! Growing up, I had the same problem around my neck. I even tried bathing in lemons, and vinegar but nothing seemed to work. After careful research online and talking to my dermatologist friend who has a clinic in Makati Med told me a few tips on what to avoid and what action to take to cure neck pigmentation:

Spaying fragrance to the neck area may have caused this pigmentation. Many perfumes have photo-sensitisers in the form of fragrance fixatives: these fixative agents when exposed to the sun cause the pigmentation. Avoid scrubbing your neck with a loofa. Repeated scrubbing can cause the skin to darken.

Having established the cause of the pigmentation, please consider there is no point in pursuing any other skin treatment program without doing these next three important things.

You must stop spraying fragrance onto the neck area.

You must avoid sun exposure.

To begin fading the pigmentation you must begin by applying a sun block to the affected area on a daily basis. Use at least SPF 30.

Another miracle product that worked for me is Eskinol Classic!

I first learned about Eskinol from a cousin of mine. I have always noticed how fresh and clear her skin was, and her secret was Eskinol. It took me a while to finally get myself a bottle. So I went to Landmark and chose the best formula for me. I found that Eskinol has a whitening formula, so this is what I bought.

After a week, my neck started to show improvement. It was getting lighter!

Eskinol also gives that "cooling" minty effect after application so it's really perfect for the summer heat!

Buy a small bottle and apply on a small portion of your neck and see if you get any reaction, if after an hour you don't have any reaction to the product, then use this twice a day! Moisten a cotton ball and apply it on the affected area.

I also use this product on my elbows!

11. Blush -This blush is actually The Body Shop's Shimmer Blush, when I dropped it and it shattered, I bought a small empty pot and put the shattered pieces in it and it still does the job perfectly well!

12. Victoria's Secret Very Sexy Dual Liquid lip color and gloss in Wet & Bare

13. Tears Naturale -Very crucial in a kikay kit to keep your eyes hydrated when they dry out because of the fumes that come from makeup products.

14. Fanny Serrano mini eyebrow angled brush

15. Your beauty essentials needs a home so get one in a bright color to easily spot it in your bag! I just love Prada's colorful nylon kits, they're water resistant and durable!

As you can see, I don't have any eyeshadows in my kit. I leave those at home :) Usually, I bring my kikay kit when I run to my meetings and need quick touch ups in the car. When I wear eyeshadow for a night out, I apply my makeup at home where I can take my time and wash it off when I make a mistake!

Oooh Lola!

I was going around SM Makati doing some shopping for the house today. I was waiting for the car to pick me up when I chanced upon Lola cosmetics in the cosmetics area at the ground floor.

The reason why I decided to check it out was coz their counter was so attractive and so sexy :) Their color theme was Black, red, and white, and had really cute packaging! Their concept kind-of reminds me Victoria's Sexy Cosmetics collection but instead of their hot pink and black colors, Lola's is red... Fire engine red.

One of the reasons why I also fell in love with Lola's cosmetics is that their products are unscented! Some cosmetics are just too fragrant that on a hot dat, the fumes usually give me a headache. Their range of lipsticks are also very everyday-makeup friendly. They don't have too much of the dramatic and fashion colors, mostly pinks, nudes, and browns which is absolutely perfect for everyday use!

They have sheers and cream lipsticks, and a wide variety of glosses in pots too! Those gloss tubes that you see are actually tinted plumpers!

I was due for a new face powder so I tried their pressed powders. The product feels light on the skin and doesn't have perfume which I just adore! I usually use mineral pressed powder that I get from the US, but Lola is just on of the few brands that have shades that match my skin tone perfectly (lucky me!) I got the shade in SAND which is yellow based and maybe equivalent to beige or nude. I found that applying the powder with the velour puff gives a more sheer coverage, and by applying with a sponge will give a heavier coverage.

I was also able to buy a lipstick. I got a nude-pink shade that is perfect for everyday use, the shade is called "DAHLIA". I love pairing shades like these with a clear gloss or a baby pink shimmer gloss. Oh girls... You will absolutely fall in love with their lipstick's packaging! Aside from it being red, the cover has a flap that flips open that will pop a small mirror!

Oh! Did I mention that Lola cosmetics is the sister company of SkinFood! So you know that their products are safe and hypoallergenic! ♥ Anyhoo... While I was in the mood for makeup shopping (finally shopping for my own makeup, and not for my professional kit!), I also got a lipliner from SkinFood which is close to the lipstick shade that I bought. It's also a soft shade of pink on the nude side so I can use them together! The pencil itself is that twisty-type thing so you wouldn't have to keep sharpening. Shade #3:

The prices aren't at all bad too! They're very affordable and you won't have to sacrifice quality. Really is value for money! Lola's lipsticks are PhP 1,000 each. The lipliner is only PhP 325! The pressed powder is a little bit pricey, but it's a good investment.. price is PhP 1,600 but if you hurry, you get a 10% discount and comes out as PhP 1,450 instead!

I can't wait to try their other products! I am intrigued with their bronzers and illuminizers! As soon as I get one, I'll tell you all about it too. These products definitely makes a yummy addition to my kikay kit! Oh! And to those girls who sent me an email asking me what's in my everyday kikay kit, check out my next post!

Oooh lala! I just love products that give care to colored treated hair! I love having my hair dyed. Either lightening it or getting highlights! Only downfall is the dryness and coarseness it gives to my hair's texture :(

My August bride Anna... She's so soft spoken and demure like her features. Hehehe... I love her skin! It was so easy to put makeup on her, the airbrush makeup didn't even have to pile on for full coverage!

Anyway, I love her deepset eyes so I created a romantic look for her. She was having her prenup pictorial today as well but it was indoors so I felt that something soft and fresh was the look to go. I defined her eyes to emphasize them more! Which she can very much get away with!

Anyway, I just love love LOVE the shape of her eyes. They remind me of Lucy Liu's! Hehehe... I was sooo tempted to do something dark and smokey for her eye makeup but she had a "vintage themed" shoot for her prenup. Something fresh is the best look for that. Specially for a very casual shoot.

A Photoshoot At Home

Even though doing bridal makeup is my #1, I missed doing fashion makeup :) So, since I was on "day-off" today, I asked my cousin to model for me. I airbrushed her base and set it with Cinema Secret's translucent powder. China's chinita eyes were easy to play up. Even though her shape wasn't much of a deepset type, they were very easy to shape and put makeup on.

Drama was my peg... A look you won't see during the summer. So I wanted to make a look that would look "hot" by using cool colors still. Colors like dark brown, purple, maroon and shimmer mauve. I used a bluish/rose lipstick on her lips to complement the palette on her eyes.

My sister was attending an exhibit opening and she wanted a natural look. I still wanted to give her a made up look though, not an every day-normal look. So I applied a slightly stronger cheek color and layered on the mascara. I also used a sheer tinted moisturizer just to even out the skin and I set it with a pressed powder. I love the fact that the her freckles still showed!

I wanted to do a completely different look today from her wedding day (since she was going to be with her fiance), so I made her eyes a little bit dramatic... And for her wedding... Something FRESH!

You must be wondering what's up with her hair. Haha! Bea Misa set her long hair in curls so that when she removes them just before shooting, they will be intact and they have already set :) They are having their pictorial in Tagaytay... So best to set it for a while :)

Kathleen Tan Trial Hair and Makeup

When I met Kathleen, I found that her skin was absolutely gorgeous. I love the fact that she wanted to look like she had makeup on and not just like she was the one who put it on herself. I also love that she wanted a bit drama on her eyes. So, that we did :)

After I airbrushed her base, I wanted to give her face a little bit of warmth because she was so fair, but I found that the foundation I used was still a little bit too warm for her tone. Although, I think that she had more color, but we could have gone a little bit lighter so that she won't be too white in photos. I just love her skin.

I though a bit of bronzer on her cheeks should give her the contouring she needs and also a little bit of warmth as well. Of course, come her wedding day, we can always go a little bit lighter just the way Kathleen would want. That's why it is always important to have a trial session so we can always adjust to what each bride wants :)

Jubee and her fiance Kim were having her prenup pictorial today so we had to do her makeup at 6am. They are having an outdoor shoot so I did a no-makeup makeup look for her so that she won't look to made up in her photos.

She opted for airbrush makeup and this was her first time to try it. I think it is also best for her since she is acidic. Airbrush formulas now can adjust to any skin type and tone.

Tony just straightened her hair because looking natural in "nature" photos is always the way to go.

The multi-talented Kate Torralba came to me tonight to have her makeup done. She had somewhere special to go to tonight...

I have always loved Kate's skin and her eyes so I had plenty to work with! I could play up her eyes, her cheekbones, lips, EVERYTHING! I just love her! She's also my friend :)

I created a soft smokey-eye look on her. Instead of the common black or grey smokey eye, I used shades of brown and bronzes, contoured with a subtle black.

I airbrushed her base and her cheeks to guarantee long lasting wear for her night out! Love et!!

Joyce Jonson Trial Hair and Makeup

Joyce is my January bride. We finally had her hair and makeup (airbrush) trial today. As soon as I met her, I just fell in-love with the color of her eyes! She had light brown eyes which went perfectly with the coral/pink shadow I applied on her... I also used other shades of brown to complete the look.

Topped with glossy coral/apricot puckers... She looked fresh and radiant... Joyce even said that after our session she wanted to wear her gown already! Hahaha!

For the hair, this is what hairstylist Helen did:

Joyce wanted to leave her hair down because according to her she had a "big face"... which she didn't! She looked absolutely gorgeous!! What Helen did was give her volume at the top to give the illusion of height and to elongate her beautiful face.

New Christmas Look

I should have used a point and shoot camera for the shots so that the makeup will be brighter but anyway... For my sister Margs' Christmas look, I created a look that was bright cheeks, bare eyes (just full lashes) and pale lips. I also made her skin dewy but in my camera you can't really see... So I have to wait til her shots from her camera to post here.

This was my first attempt to do her hair since I got my curling iron a couple of weeks ago, and I must say... NOT BAD!! Hahaha! This is the look I have been trying to attempt in a long time! It's just too bad that I can't do this to myself!

Meet Karla, my January bride. She had beautiful fair skin so going peach/pink for her makeup was the way to go. We did her makeup in airbrush so that it will last the whole day during her prenup pictorial. I would have wanted her to wear falsies but she couldn't get used to them, but that's ok. Karla still looked great!

Tony set her hair in curls so that when it's time for the pictorial, Karla just had to remove all the hair pins off her head. She had a good 2 hours to set her hair before the pictorial so Tony did this trick.

It's also perfect for her outdoor look so that it won't be too stiff for the garden setup.

Airbrush for Love

This was the first time my client Love tried airbrush and she loved it! She loves how light it feels on the skin, and I guaranteed her that it will last her the whole night. She is attending her friends' wedding today and my only available time was at 2pm. When Tony and I were finished with her hair and makeup, she had about 2 and a half hours to kill before the wedding. I assured her that this will give enough time for the makeup to set even more and make it even more natural looking.

I love Love's lips. She had perfect cupid's bow shaped top lips and playing them up with lip gloss was the way to go!

Don't be afraid to wear light makeup for night... Arrive looking fresh and natural!

Alex came to me today to have her hair and makeup done... She told me that she was wearing a beige dress with a few black details on her dress. I wanted to give her a very natural and fresh look for evening. Something light so that her makeup will look refreshing to the eyes, instead of the typical smokey look for night or the heavily lined eyes. I airbrushed her base and her blush for lasting wear, and set it with a single layer of setting powder.

I defined her eyebrows to match her beautifully colored hair by Henri Calayag. For her hair... She has extremely curly hair and she's got lots and lots of it... As Tony said, her hair is like for 4 people already! Hahaha! So what Tony did was blow dry her hair and straighten with a flat iron which brought out her beautiful cut and color.

I wish I adjusted the setting of my camera a bit more so the makeup will be seen... Anyway... next time! ;P

Ruby contacted me this morning to have her hair and makeup done. She is attending her office red carpet party tonight at the Polo Club so she wants to look glam without looking too made up... Airbrush makeup is always the way to go! It's sheer enough to cover discolorations and lasts 10-12 hours!

She was scared about doing airbrush first because she might look too made up, but this is a common misconception with airbrush makeup. This is actually the best for looking the most natural!

As soon as Karylle walked through my door, I already sensed that she was a shy girl. So I made her makeup fit her personality but added color. Safe enough for her to be comfortable with the makeup.

I did the makeup of the Alog family today for a wedding. The mom of the groom, the sister-in-law (Stacey), and the flower girl (Reese). They were all so very lovely and had nice skin so I didn't have to use a whole lot of makeup on them. Tita and Stacey opted for airbrush. Of course, baby girl Reese didn't need to be airbrushed so a hypo-allergenic, baby-friendly tinted moisturizer was all she needed for coverage.

Stacey just gave birth so she a little bit of dry spots around her face. Going for a dewy look was the way to go for her to make her skin look plump and moist.

I took some pics, but unfortunately I am not happy with the lighting when I took them. That's why I had to brighten up the picture the best way I can just so I can show you the makeup.

Hiphop?

My friend Nais came to me today and had her makeup done for their office Christmas party. Their theme was "Dance" and their group was assigned the "Hip Hop" dance. She asked me to do her makeup the hip hop way... Umm... Ok, I am not a hip hop and never was so I just made Beyonce (who is not even a full-blown hiphop artist) my peg.

Super smokey eyes with brown matte lipstick is the look. Beyonce was actually using a pinkish nude lipstick in her MTV but I remembered my cousin who went through a hiphop phase and always wore brown lipstick from Revlon back in the day.

How to work with your wedding makeup artist

Finding a makeup artist that can help you with your bridal look on your wedding day is an important decision for any bride. Together with your hair stylist, a makeup artist will be able to help complete your look. Your hair and makeup artist should complement together. Getting a pair that have been working together is best because they already know each other's works.

If you are on a budget you can always talk to your makeup artist regarding your budget and maybe you can work something out. Just remember that freelance artists are usually charging higher than salons because usually these artists have more expenses to spend on their own. So if you will be asking for a budget price, just don't expect a whole lot of freebies that will come with it.

1. The first place to start your search for a makeup artist is by talking to family members and friends. Best to ask friends who have gotten married and ask about artists they used or have tried. Even if you do not know anybody that has been recently married, they may still know of a great makeup artist. Not only will they be able to give you the name of their makeup artist, but they can also show you pictures and let you know how the overall process was for them. Talking to somebody with first hand experience with a makeup artist is a great way to find what you are looking for.

2. If you have to start the makeup artist search on your own there is nothing to worry about. You will just have to put in a little bit more work up front. Often the best place to start searching for a makeup artist is online where most of their work are now posted. Check popular forums and beauty blogs for artists.

3. Once you have a few names listed down, there are two things that you can ask for that will help you measure their talent level. First off, ask them if they have any references that they can provide you with. This way you will be able to speak with people who have experienced their service in the past. The most reputable makeup artists will always be able to give you a few references upon request. In addition to references, also ask if they have a portfolio of past clients. This will give you a good idea as to what their style is. Seeing pictures of past brides will allow you to make a decision on whether or not their style fits in with what you are looking for.

4. After you find one that you are comfortable with, and think that you are on the right track, the next thing that you will want to do is schedule a consultation with the makeup artist. During this consultation you will be able to go over everything that you need to discuss. One thing that you should keep in mind is that consultations may cost you a small fee. This is standard practice, and something that you should expect. If you would like to schedule the consultation and trial in one go, all the better. At least you will only have to spend once.

5. Take a photo of your trial session. Don't forget to take pictures from all angles so that you will be able to see what you would like to change. Specially with the hairstyle. Remember also that point and shoot digital cameras have harsh white lighting so this may not flatter the makeup that your artist have done. If you would like to see the effect properly, take a photo with lots of natural light and don't use a flash.

6. Be honest with your makeup artist. They will usually do a look that they think will look best on you and your skin tone. But if you feel you would like to go with another direction, be honest with him or her. Do not base everything with the trial look. They can always change for what you would like. What you should watch out for is the cleanliness of their work and the quality.

7. Finally, when all is said and done and you are ready to hire a makeup artist make sure that you know every last detail of what you are getting. The two most important details are the price they charge and the hours that they will work. Be sure that you know if they charge a flat rate, or if you will incur hourly expenses. In addition, you may want your makeup artist to be available on your wedding day during the time that you need them. These are all things that should be discussed up front in order to avoid any problems that may occur down the line.

Vidal Sassoon Experience

I have always been obsessed with Jennifer Aniston's laid back, out-of-bed, type of curls. I have invested in different tools in the past but never got to achieve it. The closest I've ever gotten in creating the look was when I was shot for Preview Magazine's Powder Room feature:

I didn't make use of a curling iron for this look. I just used some mousse and a whole lot of elastics. Through the years, I have watched hairstylist after hairstylist create Jen's look by the use of a curling iron. I finally got myself one from Vidal Sassoon! I couldn't find a picture of the one I got. I got a ceramic one that is gold, 32mm barrel to create big curls.

I practiced on my sister (like 5 sections on one side only)... But I could already tell that if I did stick to curling her whole head, I'll be able to create the look I have been aiming for!

Ok, I think I found the right tool... It's just a matter of whether I will have the perseverance to curl my entire head! Hahaha!

I give this iron a TEN!!

Marion Quinto Trial Hair and Makeup

My December 14 bride, Marion had her trial today with her mom. She showed me makeup pegs from magazines of the look she wanted. Basically what she wants is a clean fresh look (which is actually my classic look for brides) so it was really easy for me to create the look.

She also had nice features so it was not so much of an effort to make her up. Marion wasn't used to false lashes but not that she needed them anyway, she had naturally long ones. I just added falsies for added definition for the camera.

Vanessa and I have booked this appointment of ours for months. So, today finally came and we met for the fist time. I love her eyes! It's so easy to play up her eyes because the shape is different. Her skin is clear so I convinced her to go with the airbrush makeup. Just a thin layer of airbrush foundation, thin enough for her skin to shine through, but thick enough to cover any discolorations.

Alee Benson did a good job with Vanessa's hair as well. He created an "effortless" look to complement her fresh makeup look.

BTS at the Metro Society FS

This is me at the Metro Society Fashion Show holding room at the Batanes 2 of the Shangri-La Edsa function room before everything got crazy!

25 models, 5 makeup artists and 4 hairstylists!

The look was amazing... Too bad I wasn't able to bring my slr to take photos of the models' look for the runway that evening but it was a cat's eye winged smokey look for the eyes and soft pink with high gloss for the lips.

Serious...

Just before the models went backstage at the ballroom, I quickly did an eye and lip retouch for our beautiful Lancome product manager, Cary!

The Quintessential Facial Brush

You can easily enhance your facial exfoliation process by using a facial brush. Facial brushing helps remove dead skin, keeps your skin smooth and stimulates blood circulation in your facial skin. By stimulating the circulation in your face, your skin tone will improve and help firm the skin. Your skin will become softer and smoother... And black and white heads free!

Every time you use it – it’s like a mini facial massage! It’s a fabulous way to spoil yourself during your weekly facial cleaning routine.

My steps: On dry skin, I remove my make-up with Lancome's Huille Eclat, a deep cleansing oil for the face and eyes. I massage my face for about 3 minutes using light circular motions. With a facial brush (I personally use a soft-bristled short handled brush), scrub your face gently in circular motions for about 3 minutes. Then, with luke warm water, wash your face and pat dry. NEVER scrub the towel on your face, just patting it will do.

Only do this regime once a week so that you won't scratch your new skin.

Tips:

1. Keep your facial brush in optimum shape by rinsing it after use and air-drying it. Placing it on top of a drying rack is best so that it won't sit on a pool of water which can cause build up of mildew and bacteria.

2. Remember to moisturize and apply tons of sunblock when you do facial brushing. This removes dead skin cells so your skin is exposed more to UV rays. Be sure to use at least 30spf on your face.

For years, I have been using Makeup Forever's Brush Cleaner... But as the months/years went by, it got harder and harder to wait for the supply to come (*tear*), every time it was out of stock, I would use Beauty Bar's own brand of Makeup brush cleaner but I found it a little bit too oily. I was too stubborn to try anything else after that... So instead of cleaning my brushes every after use with an instant cleaner like Makeup Forever's, I would wash them every time with shampoo and leave them over night to dry on my brush rack. It was soooo hard.

Finally, I was running out of shampoo and got tired of running to the supermarket to get some. I finally bit the bullet and got myself a bottle of MAC's brush cleaner. I used it immediately as soon as I got home from working behind the curtains at Metro Society's fashion show last night. And lo and behold, I was really happy with it! It doesn't smell like alcohol like most cleaners do, and it doesn't dry the brush hairs. So now I am back to shampooing my precious brushes every 4 days, and cleaning them with an instant cleanser after each use.

Will definitely grab myself another bottle before this one runs out.

Shopping Spree

Today after my shoot, I went on a shopping spree and bought 5 new shades of eye shadows from MAC. I was always scrambling around my makeup kit when I am at work looking for matte shades for brides and always failed. I would always substitue with something else so finally, in spite of my aching back, legs and feet from a whole afternoon of shooting, I went to Glorietta and bought myself a whole set of shades that I always wished I had!!

Thank goodness my sister was in my condo when I arrived so I tested my new products on her... yes, complete with foundation and false eyelashes!

I used 4 shades on her eyes, and the 5th shade was just plain black so I used it only on her lash lines.

I created a bridal look that was lightly heavy on the eyes. I just wanted to do this because brides are always afraid to use eyeliner, afraid that they might look "too made up" or "too dramatic". So, this is just to show women out there that eyeliner is always, always, always a best option. It looks best in pictures too.

Of course, the decision is always up to my brides because I want them to not only look their best on their big day, but to be comfortable with the makeup as much as possible.
